HCAA is proud to give credit and a dedication of respect to these fine martial arts that have given much influence to the core concepts of the Hurricane system.
Jeet Kune Do (TM)
Jeet Kune Do, or the Way Of The Intercepting Fist, was developed by martial arts legend Bruce Lee. It incorporates several martial arts including Wing Chun Gung Fu, Western Boxing, French Savate and Fencing along with several other systems, depending on the practitioner, and arguably continues to evolve to this day. There are basically two schools of JKD thought, those being "Original JKD" & "JKD Concepts". HCAA trains in both methods, and primarily follows those concepts taught primarily by Guro Dan Inosanto, (The late JKD and grappling legend)-Sifu Larry Hartsell, & Professor Garry Dill. For more info on Jeet Kune Do, simply type in "JKD" in any browser to find a multitude of sites.

Pentjak Silat Serak (TM)
The deadly art of Pentjak Silat Serak (TM) originates from the Indonesian island of Java, in the Gunung Kendang Mountains on the western portion of the island. The art is named after its founder, Pak Serak. Pak Serak studied nine distinct martial arts and became highly proficient in three before creating his own. Pak Serak had a unique need to develop his own art because he had one short arm and one clubfoot. Pak Seraks' limited mobility drove him to develop an extremely devastating art based on closing quickly with an opponent, and using levers and torque, controlling him to destroy his mobility and gain the edge in a fight. This aggressive philosophy permeates Serak and its daughter arts.
Serak is the original art from which the kombinasi of Tongkat, ODF, and influences in Hurricane are derived. It was brought to the United States from Indonesia by the DeThouars brothers in the 1960s. The DeThouars brothers can trace their inheritance of the art back to Pak Serak through family lines. SiJo Frank Monsalve is a direct student under Maha Guru Victor De Thouars, holding a direct line to the lineage of Silat-Serak, and the only person in Nevada licensed to teach Pentjak Silat SerakTM .

Russian Martial Arts
HCAA trains in Russian military combat systems that are taught primarily to Russian Spetznaz (Special Forces), Airborne and High Risk Special Operations units. These arts are based on traditional Russian fighting methods, developed and updated for practical use on the battlefield, close quarter executive protection work, and law enforcement applications. Little was known or seen of these arts in the west prior to the fall of the Iron Curtain, but recently their devastating, battle proven effectiveness has been discovered. There are different schools of Russian Martial Arts, and HCAA practices the teachings of Vladimir Vasiliev former Spetz Operator, and Mr. A.A. Kadichnokov of Krasnodar.
Though these systems were developed as military combat arts, they do encompass many other areas of training such as holistic health practices and an extensive physical fitness regimen, all stemming from traditional Russian culture.
For more detailed info on Systema and other Russian martial arts, we suggest you visit the official Systema site on the links page.
